Why are you a Certified Flight Instructor?

One of the best parts about being in the aviation community is having the chance to share the miracle of flight with those who have never experienced it before. Teaching is such a fun way to do this. As an instructor, I get to share the cockpit with people from all different backgrounds and help each one of them work towards their goals. I love explaining concepts in different ways and helping my students learn all the reasons why I love aviation so much.

How long have you been instructing?
I obtained my CFI certificate in 2018 and my CFII in early 2019. Since then I have logged over 100 hours of dual-given.

Do you tend to favor PAO or SQL, and how might it affect a student's ability to schedule time?
Either airport works for me and it ultimately comes down to which airport is most favorable to the student. However, I will mention that I may have better availability at SQL on the weekends due to it being closer to San Francisco. 

How would you describe your availability in general?
I generally am available after 5pm on weekdays and on the weekends. Outside of those restrictions, I like to tailor my availability to my students. 

What method of ground school do you prefer and how does it relate to your syllabus?
Every student learns in a different way. I tend to believe that an online ground school is great because it allows you to go back and review topics that you've forgotten or need to brush up on. However, if someone prefers one-on-one instruction, or to attend an in-person ground school, I will be more than happy to accommodate. 

What is your favorite aircraft to instruct in?
Personally, I love C152s. It's the airplane that I first learned to fly and I've always been partial to it. They are great for shorter pilots and have relatively simple systems to learn. 

What are your aircraft recommendations for a new student?
In general, Cessna aircraft are great training platforms. If someone would like to have more room in the cockpit or a bit more technology in the cockpit, then the C172s are a great option. For a shorter pilot or someone on a budget, 152s are also an awesome aircraft. Training aircraft selection is something personal and I am willing to adjust to whatever works for each student.  

What percentage of your students pass their checkride on the first try?
I aim for a 100% pass rate. I will not sign off a student until I am certain that they are a safe and competent pilot that is able to exceed the minimum requirements for obtaining the rating or certificate that they are after.
