I especially enjoy giving instrument instruction. I like teaching all the GPS systems, MFDs, and PFDs found in some modern cockpits. They reduce the workload and make instrument flying easier and more fun. I believe flying should be fun. I taught in flight simulators in the US Air Force, and worked for IBM as a programmer/analyst before becoming a full time flight instructor.

Why are you a Certified Flight Instructor?
Because I love flying and teaching, and enjoy helping people to achieve their goals.

How long have you been instructing?
I started flying at WVFC in 1976, and have been teaching since 1990.

Do you tend to favor PAO, SQL, HWD or E16, and how might it affect a student's ability to schedule time?
I favor Palo Alto.

How would you describe your availability in general?
I am available every day beginning at 10:00 except Tuesdays and Fridays, which I take off.

What method of ground school do you prefer and how does it relate to your syllabus?
My students may choose the WVFC ground school, video tapes, DVDs, and online courses, or just self-study with some tutoring. I will adjust the flight/ground instruction to accommodate the ground school.

What is your favorite aircraft to instruct in?
My favorite aircraft to instruct in all have fixed wings ;-)

What are your aircraft recommendations for a new student?
Try different aircraft, and see which the student feels most comfortable flying - or at least sitting in the aircraft.

What percentage of your students pass their checkride on the first try?
I am a Gold Seal Instructor and have always maintained higher than an 80% first time pass rate (usually about 90%).
