Why are you a Certified Flight Instructor?
I've flown both desks and airplanes for a living, and definitely prefer airplanes.
Among the many upsides, I get to share in the inevitable excitement as new students become pilots, and as former students add new ratings and skills.
And the view is awesome.
How long have you been instructing?
Since 1993.
Do you tend to favor PAO, SQL, HWD or E16, and how might it affect a student's ability to schedule time?
I fly regularly from SQL and PAO. I am fully available at either airport.
How would you describe your availability in general?
I am a full-time career pilot and instructor, and am generally available weekdays and occasional weekends. Please note that I may actually be available during times West Valley's online schedule (CASSi) shows me blocked off. If you'd like to schedule time that appears unavailable, please email or call!
What is your favorite aircraft to instruct in?
I especially enjoy teaching in Technically Advanced Aircraft, and specialize in IFR systems and procedures, cockpit automation, and G1000 and Avidyne glass cockpits.
But I like teaching takeoffs and landings in basic 172s, too.
What percentage of your students pass their checkride on the first try?
Only two failed checkrides since 1993.
