May instruct in these aircraft types: *Checkpilot Why are you a Certified Flight Instructor? Because I love to fly and I love to teach. How long have you been instructing? Since 1976. Do you tend to favor PAO, SQL, HWD or E16, and how might it affect a student's ability to schedule time? I prefer instructing at PAO but I am happy to instruct at SQL. How would you describe your availability in general? Currently I am in the Bay Area one week in 4 or 5. Please check my schedule on CASSi What method of ground school do you prefer and how does it relate to your syllabus? I'd say the choice of ground school depends largely on the student. What is your favorite aircraft to instruct in? All tailwheels. More fun! After more than 8,000 hours in tailwheel aircraft, I still love to fly them - and especially to instruct in them. Okay, I do fly 'nose-pushers' too. ;-) What are your aircraft recommendations for a new student? Find an instructor you feel comfortable with and can communicate well with and try all of the trainers, ie fly an hour in each or at least sit in each to see what you feel most comfortable in. What percentage of your students pass their checkride on the first try? During the 30 years I have been instructing, out of a several hundred students, four have failed to pass their checkrides on the first try. They all say the checkride was easier than flying with me during the last few hours of preparation. :-) Additional Comments: If I am unable to fly with you, I'd be glad to make CFI recommendations based on your needs and my knowledge of our CFI corps. |
