May instruct in these aircraft types: *Checkpilot Why are you a Certified Flight Instructor? I grew up around aviation, my dad had a Cherokee and our family flew everywhere we went. After finishing my Bachelor's degree I took a look at the careers I would like to pursue and I realized that being a pilot and Flight Instructor offered me everything I wanted. I love to teach and share the wonder of the outdoors with others. I teach White Water River Rafting, Snowboarding, and Flying. How long have you been instructing? Since December 2000. I am now flying as a Corporate Pilot in the Piaggio Avanti II, and have and will continue teaching for the rest of my life. Do you tend to favor PAO, SQL, HWD or E16, and how might it affect a student's ability to schedule time? Both Palo Alto and San Carlos are great airports, and I favor whichever works best for my student's schedule. How would you describe your availability in general? Very open. Mornings, Afternoons and Nights. What method of ground school do you prefer and how does it relate to your syllabus? I think a lot of people get a lot out of a classroom situation and can learn by others inputs. If a person's schedule prohibits this, self-study supplemented with one on one with an instructor. What is your favorite aircraft to instruct in? I think the Cessna aircraft offer a great training platform for primary training. I equate it to learning on a 2 wheeler compared to a tricycle, a lot more balance is learned. Having over 1000 hours in the Cirrus aircraft I believe that the Cirrus offers a world of high performance and advanced avionics that excite me and my students. Many of my students have learned to fly and gone on to earn their instrument rating in the Cirrus. Some of these students have taken this path knowing that they are going to advance their skills to be able to fly the Light Jets. What are your aircraft recommendations for a new student? Pipers for those who like to feel more supported, as my mom says, 'it feels like the wing is underneath her, and she is not going to fall out of the sky'. What percentage of your students pass their checkride on the first try? 96% |
