01 A Hangar - New Experience

When my wife and I returned home to Chicagoland for some family business, we also decided to do something special for our 10th anniversary. We rented a well-equiped Piper Archer from Cougar Aviation, a great FBO at DuPage County Airport. After working through our first experience with a hangar, we headed off North towards the far reaches of Michigan's upper peninsula.

We were flying on a fairly complicated instrument flight plan, a good thing since we spent a significant amount of time in the fluffy white stuff. Our four reasonable choices of altitude were:

  1. Bumpy
  2. In the bottom of the clouds
  3. In the top of the clouds
  4. Bumpier
After refueling at Pelston Airport, we made a short, very beautiful and very green approach onto Mackinac (Pronounced Mack-in-aw) Island. For a romantic getaway, Mackinac Island fits the bill.
