FlyOutGroup - Colorado Mountain Flying (June 23-27)
Posted by 8638 on Mon Feb 01, 2010 at 9:36 am

The FlyOutGroup is planning a return to the mountains of Colorado with a five-day mountain flying training trip in June.

We took six airplanes and 17 people two years ago and everyone had an amazing time. This really is some of the most spectacular scenery in the country.

The trip is set for Jun 23-27 (We-Su) and is a 5-Day (4-night) flyout to the Colorado Rockies. This time we'll be taking the southern route to get there to see some different territory. We'll spend our first night in Santa Fe, NM, then two nights in Glenwood Springs, CO, and the last night in St. George, UT on the return to the Bay Area.

This is a MOUNTAIN FLYING trip, and all participants will be required to attend mountain flying training sessions before coming on the flight.

Two students/1 CFI per airplane, with about 12-14 flight hours per student. It's a great way to build up your capabilities and see some great terrain. Exceptions to the 2 students/1 CFI rule will be made on a case-by-case basis and would require sufficient prior experience.

More information and sign-ups are on the FlyOutGroup website. http://www.FlyOutGroup.org/

More information, including detailed route information and estimated costs will be available at the FlyOutGroup Spring BBQ on Saturday, March 20th.

Edwards AFB airshow Oct 17
Posted by 5662 on Wed Oct 07, 2009 at 11:51 am

Anyone interested in going to Edwards AFB air show Saturday Oct 17 ?

I'm considering flying into Mojave Friday afternoon, renting a car and overnighting, see show next day, drop off car around 6pm, then return to PAO, hopefully by 9pm approx. Or could overnight again and come back Sunday morning. There may be difficulties in renting cars and I'll post results as I find out more. No plan is set in stone yet.

I'm looking for a safety pilot to go with me and split flying duties. I'd also consider going with a CFI if I can get a significant discount. I cannot pay all-day CFI rates for the trip.

I would take a 172SP but am also considering renting something fancier / faster if enough people wish to join.

Autumn Wings Festival @ Castle, Sep. 20
Posted by 9945 on Sat Aug 08, 2009 at 7:56 pm

My wife and I just flew out to Castle (KMER) and went to the air museum there for the first time. Pretty incredible, lots of stuff to see! While we were there, we bumped into the guy who runs the place (I've forgotten his name) and he mentioned an event they have coming up:

September 20th (Sunday) they're having their "Autumn Wings Festival." The guy told me of three attractions:

- Open cockpits (normally you can't look inside the planes)
- Food vendors
- The rollout of their newly refurbished F-15 Eagle!

This sounded cool to me, and it's a pretty easy flight out there. I hope to see some of you there!
